High-grade beans

(Flower beans, haricot bean, white kidney bean, and dark red kidney bean)

Since a long time ago, Toyako has been known as an area that produces high-grade beans. They are loved as Toyako beans by consumers throughout Japan.

Kamui dainagon (Large type of azuki bean)

Each bean is large making it perfect for sekihan ('red rice' eaten during celebrations) and amanato (sugared bean).

Melon teppo-zuke (stuffed pickled melon)

Young melons, a special product of Toyako, are bored out and then filled with carrots, burdock root, and shredded Japanese green peppers wrapped in red peril leaves. They are made with the spirit of Toyako and are one of Toyako’s prize products. Melon teppo-tsuke is ideal for ochazuke (rice with toppings in a tea soup).

Celery kasuzuke (celery pickled in sake lees)

The fragrance and crispness of the celery make this especially delicious. Like melon teppo-tsuke, celery kasutsuke is a prize product of the area. We recommend those who don’t like celery to even give it a try. It goes well with sake.

Dahankoki

Dahankoki is a shochu (a clear distilled spirit) made from locally-grown kumazasa (Veitch's bamboo) which is able to survive Hokkaido's harsh winters. Dahankoki has various meanings in the local dialect, including a "peevish person" or "unreasonable person." People who like this shochu are said to drink it to keep away such people.
